Goodbye to a Friend

I made many friends where I used to work (retired last year) who I’ve kept in contact with, mainly through lunches and dinners.  One of those friends is getting married and moving to Arizona soon….I’m soooo happy for her….she deserves a lot of happiness….she is one of those persons who is always smiling and is such a diligent worker….I will miss her terribly.

The Goodbye circle and the messages are digital images from The Cutting Cafe…

Mother’s Day Wishes

I’m really enjoying using up some of my retired papers/DSP with paper-crafting projects!  Although Melon Mambo is a bit bright for me, I think my Mom will like the card…she always appreciates the cards I make for her….actually, I’m an only child…I have no competition!

This card will also be submitted for the Featured Stamper Challenge from last Sunday…FS326.  Here is Scrapawayg3′s card that I CASE’d….I changed several features on my card, however I kept the design…for the most part…

The name of the Specialty DSP….Flirtacious….the other color is Old Olive…

FS326.1

This particular paper also came with die-cut doilies and I used one under the scallop circle….The die-cut flower is from the Secret Garden stamp set and framelits dies….

FS326.2

And here is the matching envelope…letters were cut out with SU’s Typeset Alphabet…

Hymn and Scripture Challenge #7

I’m finally caught up with Patter’s challenges (until Patter’s next post!….they are posted every other Sunday)…check out Patter’s post on #7…This is a great hymn and I particularly loved the emphasis on Trust because it has been “my word” for this year in my BSF study of Genesis….in addition, I had some experiences with my Mom that caused me to pray a lot about trusting God.

Trust Him Hymn challenge 1...IMG_0685

The resin flowers are from the SU Artisan Embellishment kit…

The scripture verse is well-known and is my favorite!  We often lean on our own unreliable understanding, don’t we?  But when we trust and acknowledge His sovereignty and wisdom, He “straightens” us out and leads us on His path…which is the only wise path!

Trust Him Hymn challenge 2…IMG_0686

The DSP is retired…I loved it with the washi tape…

Trust Him…4...IMG_0688

Can’t wait to see which hymn Patter will select next….

One of these days soon, I will be showing the beginnings of my Project Life albums…as a matter of fact, today is National Scrapbook Day….I’m still in the stages of “Where do I start?”   I have literally thousands of photos that need to be organized and selected…it will happen…it will happen…it will happen!

Hymn and Scripture Challenge

I’m making catching up with Patter Cross’ 2013 Hymn and Scripture Challenge my priority this week….and I believe this Next Sunday she will be posting yet another one!  Please check the link above for her devotional message about this  hymn that, I’m sure, we all know and love!

The paper I used is retired SU…remember Spice Cake?…and uses Pear Pizzaz which has been “on the shelf” and is now returning to be a member of the Subtles colors….Yay!  I always liked that color and hated to see it ousted when it was an “In Color”….I have the new catalog and am presently trying to absorb the changes….It’s all good!

Come Thou Fount Hymn Challenge.1 IMG_0679

The flowers are sponge-dusted with Crumb Cake ….the leaves are die-cut from the Secret Garden Framelits and sponged with Crumb Cake….I’m really starting to like Washi Tape …. it just adds another little touch…there are several rolls in the new catalog, also..(not the one in the picture).

This hymn, for me, is a hymn of praise to God…so I chose a verse that praises and thanks the One who blesses us and saves us.

Come Thou Fount.2 IMG_0680

Those two little fabric flowers remind me of birds’ nests!

Here is another view….

Come Thou Fount.3 IMG_0683

My 6×6 album is beginning to grow and expand with these challenges…it will be wonderful to have all these hymn and scripture tributes to put on my coffee table at the end of the year!

I Made Something!

Hallelujah!  I actually went into my craft room and made something!  Will wonders never cease (as my Grandma used to say!)….It’s taken FOREVER to get my mom’s house ready for sale and now escrow is underway!!  Bittersweet as it is (my mom has dementia and now lives in a local Board and Care)….it is such a relief to be making headway and to move forward…

My creation is a 6×6 page for the Hymn Challenge that I’m WAY behind on….but, I’ll catch up soon!  The hymn that Patter chose is Cleanse Me….I’d never heard of this hymn…check here for a short bio of the writer of this hymn….although Patter herself has some challenges this year, she always manages to blog her excellent work and research into the hymns she chooses….

Cleanse Me Hymn IMG_0626

I used that so pretty DSP, Tea for Two, again….plus some washi tape, yummy fabric flowers, and pearls!

This verse is one of my most frequently prayed verses….here is a close-up…

Enjoy!   Hope to be back soon…the new 2013-2014 SU catalog arrived at my house today and I plan to devour every page!

Easter Blessings!

Even though I haven’t been posting for awhile (knee-deep in preparing my mom’s home for sale)…I didn’t want to let Resurrection Sunday go by without a shout and praise to God for His wonderful provision for sinners (that’s you and me!)….

Have a wonderful, refreshing, and blessed Easter Day!         Susan

Where Does the Time Go?

Time sure does fly bye-bye, doesn’t it?

I’m in the midst of some personal changes and moving my Mom into a Board and Care home where I feel she will be safer than in her own home….she was just diagnosed with dementia….it will be better for her, but it brings great sadness to see such a radical difference in her.  The Lord has guided me throughout this difficult process and I’m very thankful.

Sooo….I will return soon, hopefully with renewed mojo!

Hymn and Scripture Challenge #4

Hi everyone!  I’m catching up with Patter’s Hymn and Scripture Challenge….she just posted #4 this last Sunday…Yay!  The hymn she chose for #4 is one I ‘m not familiar with…it is fairly new compared to the other ancient hymns…the name of the hymn is Worthy of Worship…written in 1988 by a man who is still living!  You can read about him and enjoy the devotional on the link to Patter’s blog above.  Below are the lyrics…notice the descriptive words for God…Patter used those words in her search for verses:

Worthy of worship, worthy of praise,

Worthy of honor and glory;
Worthy of all the glad songs we sing,
Worthy of all the offerings we bring.

Refrain
You are worthy, Father, Creator.
You are worthy, Savior, Sustainer.
You are worthy, worthy and wonderful;
Worthy of worship and praise.

Worthy of rev’rence, worthy of fear,
Worthy of love and devotion;
Worthy of bowing and bending of knees,
Worthy of all this and added to these.

Almighty Father, Master and Lord,
King of all kings and Redeemer,
Wonderful Counselor, Comforter, Friend,
Savior and Source of our life without end.
……Again I chose the Tea for Two DSP…then highlighted it with some roses from the Artisans Embellishments kit (SU Spring catalog) and a lattice die cut (Spellbinders).
Hymn Challenge 4…front
I printed the Hymn on Lucky Limeade CS and used the same color ribbon with a Pretty in Pink button…
Hymn Challenge 4..Hymn
I chose Revelation 4:11 for my verse because it reminds me of all I have been learning in our BSF study of Genesis.

Let’s chat again soon!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Sympathy for a Friend

Hi to all!  Here is just a quick look at a sympathy card I made for a good friend who just lost her brother in an automobile accident….very simple card using SU’s Thoughts and Prayers set……

Sympathy for a Friend

You really can’t tell, but the tree is heat-embossed with Early Espresso…I kept everything to a minimum…never seems appropriate to ” fussy-up ” with a sympathy card…just me talking…

Hymn and Scripture Challenge

ScriptureChall2013ButtonSm

Here is my entry for the Hymn and Scripture Challenge #3 for 2013…Patter has a particularly poignant post related to the illness of one of her triplets….here is the Challenge and her post.  Patter is a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) (as I am, also)….so I know that many are praying for her daughter and for the family.

Patter always has several verses related to the Hymn…I chose Psalm 31:3…I felt this Psalm best expressed (for me)…the desire we should have to glorify His name.

This is the first time I’ve used Washi Tape, but I know it’s going to become a staple for me….fortunately, I found a great sale at Michael’s and stocked up…it makes a lovely accent…don’t you think?

Hymn Challenge…2.10.13

I LOVE SU’s Tea for Two DSP….it’s so romantic….actually, you only see a snippet to the left side, but I’ll really be using that paper…I bought two packs from the get-go!

Here is a closer look…

Projects Galore!

warning!  This is a long post!  Please proceed anyway!

Hi everyone…I have one completed project and another one that is JUST getting started to show you today…

As promised, here is a look at the 120 refrigerator magnets I made this past month for my church’s Women’s Tea on March 2nd.  Tonight I will be getting some help from some of the women in wrapping each magnet with cello paper and ribbon…The fronts of the magnets were made with dies from ODBD and MFT, an SU butterfly punch, SU flowers brushed with Dazzling Diamonds, and SU DSP (I was so excited to use a fair amount of retired SU paper for this project)  and the stamp message is from ODBD….Here are all the magnets in two large shoeboxes…

Magnet Project…boxes

Magnet Project…8

Here are some close-ups…

Magnet Project …3 and…..

Magnet Project…flowers

Now for my #2 project…which, by the way will be ongoing  because it is scrapbooking…I gave up scrapbooking quite awhile ago because of lack of time  (due to a full-time job) and prioritizing card-making as my main craft!  Retirement has given me the opportunity to scrapbook again!  Fairly recently I’ve had my eye on Becky Higgins’ Project Life…so different from when I was scrapbooking years ago!  I used to spend so much time creating each elaborate and well-thought out page…I can understand why young mothers would just give up and not scrapbook! At first I was dubious about the style of Project Life…so simple!  But I’m getting used to it and am beginning to really love it…I especially love all Becky’s products….coordination, beautiful colors and designs…and there is always the flexibility of “fluffing” the page (for those of us who need a few extras on our pages…and come on…I’m not the only one!)…So here I am in the beginning stages of needing to sort what may be thousands of pictures…Realistically,  I won’t be able to use all of them (Really?)….I’ll be posting the albums (oh yes, I’ll be creating different albums simultaneously)…I’m still deciding how to do that!!

are you still with me?

I’ll be showing you some beginning photos soon, but will spare you for now ;-) ….thanks for hanging in!

HSCRC13…Hymn #2…It Is Well With My Soul

Hi everyone!  Oh Boy…am I ever late with this challenge…or let me say I feel  late…actually Patter has no deadline for this challenge…until the end of the year 2013.  However, I would like to keep up and not get too far behind…Here is a link to Patter’s post…please read what she has to say about this hymn…it’s amazing…she always has great links and a devotional that applies to the hymn.

As I said previously, I’ve been working on some refrigerator magnets as favors for my church’s Women’s Tea on March 2….Whew!  Seems like it took FOREVER!  I worked on them every day….had to….otherwise I would never have finished them….I’ll have some pictures soon!

ScriptureChall2013ButtonSm

My mode for storing these 6×6 entries is a 6×6 album (when I decorate the cover, I’ll show a picture of it)…The man who wrote this very famous hymn, which I’ve sung many times, lost several children at sea, so I thought this little angel with a heart would be a sweet remembrance….

Hymn Challenge 1:27:2013

I selected John 14:27 from the several verses that Patter chose to represent the hymn…it is such an encouraging verse and reassures us that we can depend on our Lord when we are overcome with fear or when our fears are little ones…

Hymn Challenge 1.27.13 verse

One of my favorite accents is buttons…even more than ribbon!  The clouds are die-cut and sprinkled with Dazzling Diamonds.

Hymn Challenge 1.27.13 Hymn

Stamps:  AngelHeart Digi Image from Whimsy and Stars
Paper: Garden Green and Whisper White CS and Twitterpated DSP
Ink: Wild Wasabi, Bashful Blue, and Copics
Tools:  Spellbinder, MFT, and TE dies
Accents: SU buttons and Pearls, Dazzling Diamonds

Guess what I’m doing these days?  This woman and I have something in common! I haven’t had a cold for some time, but now it’s my turn!  But, I am still working on my project for my church…I’ll have more pictures soon and hopefully be a lot healthier!  Stay healthy, yourself!          Susan
