Category Archives: Thank You Cards

For a Special Lady

Here is a card I was asked to create for the woman who plays the piano at my BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) class…a thank you for her service to the class throughout the year…..she has served so faithfully!

I used some of the DSP from the brand-new Gingham Garden papers…and heat embossed the rose bouquet stamp from Taylored Expressions in silver.

Lorena Card.1 IMG_0723

One reddish rose that stands out among the others, using Crystal Effects….to represent how we see her as very special…colored with Copics and sprinkled on some candy dots.

Dynamic Duos Thank You

After a short holiday break,  on-line paper-crafting  challenges are gearing up for the year 2013!    Here is Dynamic Duos #34….I was amazed to see Melon Mambo again…I just completed a color challenge with that color last week!   This time Melon Mambo is paired with Island Indigo  (my favorite blue)!

DD# 34

I retrieved another favorite of mine…the retired SU Daisy die for this challenge…I thought it would showcase the color Melon Mambo very well.  And what’s with all the polka-dots?  I just can’t seem to get away from them!  FYI…my photos don’t show off the blue-green of Island Indigo…the truer color is in the DD Logo.

DD34Daisy

I “puffed up” the smaller daisy for depth and placed an In Color matching (Island Indigo) brad in the middle for contrast….the message is from Itty Bitty Banners with a matching die…..easy peasy!

DD34Daisy2

You can’t tell very well, but I heat embossed the message with Melon Mambo embossing powder.

My Favorite Things #105

Lots of firsts this time of the year…and sooo, the first MFT Sketch challenge for 2013….wish I had enough time to participate in many more challenges…I think I find a new one every day…. but this is also the time of year when I feel an overwhelming urge to purge and re-organize, so I’m in the midst of preparing “stuff” to give away to someone who will, no doubt, appreciate something “new”…..and, of course, cleaning in every crack and crevice…

First, the sketch:

MFTWSC105-1

I decided to use one of the SU Labels Framelits instead of a rectangle, but cut the sides to make it more of a rectangular shape….the image is the MFT Puppy Girl ….so sweet…message from  MFT ‘s Blessed Mouse……background:  SU Floral District DSP….colored with Copics…..

MFT 105

Mmmm…those cheeks are a bit much…need a fine-line marker, don’t I?   You may not be able to see it, but there is a bit of sparkle in her little hair heart!

I’m in Thanksgiving mode so decided to use the stamp set, Full of Blessings…and aren’t we truly blessed?…I am and I hope that you are, also!

Both of my images are heat embossed with Early Espresso and colored with blender pens dipped in ink pads (I could have also used ink refills, but decided to take a short-cut).

I thought the woodgrain embossing folder would suit this card for a background… colors are Tangerine Tango, Early Espresso, Always Artichoke, and Daffodil Delight!

Featured Stamper #300

WoW!  This is Number 300 for the Splitcoaststamper’s Featured Stamper Challenge!  Actually #300 was for last Sunday (I’m a little late)….better late than never….I considered not participating as time went on, but I saw a card I REALLY wanted to CASE….so…..

Oops!…before I forget…the honored stamper is Jen Mitchell….take some time to check out her gallery!

My card is very similar to Jen’s, in fact the design is the same….I changed the DSP, the leaf colors and the ribbon.

What do you think about the burlap?  Have you ever smelled that stuff?  Ewww!

Fall Thank You

Here is a Fall card that I made and then decided to give to a dear person with kind, listening ears in My BSF Study (Bible Study Fellowship).    I saw a similar card and decided to tuck the leaves into the DSP.  I added a bit of bling and colored the rhinestones with Sharpies……then added on one of my favorite embellishments….Dahlias….just love those little critters!

When I first saw the Orchard Harvest DSP, I had my doubts about how I would be able to use it…NO more, however…..with the Framelits and Stamp set that match it…NO problem!

Here is today’s Sketch Challenge #402 over at SplitCoast Stampers:

Here is another Fall..ish card…..Leaves make a lovely addition to any card, don’t you think?

Summer Starfruit, one of the newest In Colors, dominates this card…since I first saw this color, I thought it was mis-named and should have been called Autumn Starfruit…just seems like more of a Fall season color to me because it is a bit greenish.

Fall Thanks for SC #400

Have you ever participated in the Splitcoaststampers’ Challenges?  They have challenges for every day of the week and sometimes more than one per day….so if you’re ever looking for ways to improve your stamping skills or to just have fun and increase your card stash…take part in the challenges!

Here is a card for this week’s sketch challenge…the challenge was to select any past sketch and use it to make a card (I selected #391):

This was a relatively easy card to put together once I chose the colors and paper…it turned out to be a type of Fall Thanks card or just a thank you for a friend.  The main image message is heat embossed with Early Espresso…I love the way Stampin’ Up! has increased the number of embossing powder colors…you can never have enough!

Naturally Thankful

When I first looked at the Natural Composition Specialty DSP in the catalog…I wondered just how I would use it..I was accustomed to using a lot of color and this paper was so subtle and so BROWN….what you don’t see in the picture below, however, is the luscious glossiness of the images.  The paper is pretty classy and can be added to color schemes or used in a monochromatic theme as the one below.

I heat embossed the message with Early Espresso to give the image just a little POP with a different shade of brown!

Here you can see a bit of the glossy finish on the DSP and the embossed message…

  • Stamps:   Perfectly Penned (wood…122890;  clear…122892),  Thoughts and Prayers (wood…113252;  clear…127805)
  • Ink:  Versamark (102283), Crumb Cake (126975)
  • Paper:  Natural Composition Specialty DSP (126917), Crumb Cake CS (120953)
  •  Tools:  Big Shot (113439), Labels Collection Framelits (125598), 1/16″ Circle Handheld (101227), 3/16″ Corner Punch (119871)
  • Accents:  Crumb Cake  1/2″ Seam Binding Ribbon (122332)

I’m getting ready to tackle making some boxes out of this paper…saw that on someone’s blog and loved it!

You can purchase all these products from my Stampin’ Store…here!   Do you love Pinterest?  I’ve gotten soooo many ideas from that site!

Mid-Week Technique

Did you ever (or maybe you do now) own a watch with a mother of pearl face?  I have owned more than one with a pearlescent (as I call it) design …. I guess it’s not really “modern”, but I thought it added interest to the watch…something that drew attention to an otherwise plain surface.

I was pleased to find a technique for “Faux Mother of Pearl” in the Stampin’ Up! Workshop Wow video (presentations from a variety of demonstrators at regional  seminars).

The second picture really shows off the technique a bit more clearly….for those of you that like different techniques, this one is so simple!   Here are the Stampin’ Steps:

  1. Pour a small amount of  Shimmer Paint (I used Frost White..116854) into a paper plate and swish around the plate with a small amount of scrunched Saran Wrap….
  2. Dab a thin coat…no dribs or drabs that puddle…onto your background…..cover it completely with the paint.
  3. Allow it to dry completely.
  4. Sponge on whatever colors you need to correspond with your theme colors.  The colors will glimmer and shine when dry (I sponged with Lucky Limeade and a bit of Daffodil Delight).

  • Stamps:  Serene Silhouettes (wood mount…127322; clear mount…127324)
  • Ink:  Wisteria Wonder, Lucky Limeade, Daffodil Delight
  • Paper:  Summer Smooches DSP (125409) and  2011-2013 In Color Designer Series Paper Stacks (122384); Shimmery White and  Wisteria Wonder CS
  • Tools:   Elegant Butterfly Punch (127526), 2 1/2″ Circle Punch, Labels Collection Framelits,  Stamp-a-ma-jig, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Stamping Sponges, Perfect Polka Dots Folder, Paper Snips
  • Accents:  Shimmer Paint (Frost White…116854), Pearl Basic Jewels

Thanks for stopping by today… …leave a comment and let me know if you’ve ever used this technique!

Twitterpated Treats

I want to share a little treat box with you today (idea from Brenda Quintana)…one with a clear “window” cover…. and give you the Stampin’ Steps on how to create this sweet gift for a special someone!

Here are the supplies I used from Stampin’ Up!….of course, the colors and decor style will be yours!

susan’s supplies :

  • Stamps:  It’s A Wrap Occasions, Fabulous Phrases
  • Ink:  Island Indigo
  • Paper:  Island Indigo and Whisper White CS; Twitterpated DSP, and Window Sheet
  • Tools:  Simply Scored, Framelits Labels die, Large Oval punch, 1/16″ Circle Handheld punch
  • Accents:  Ruffled Ribbon (Island Indigo), White Twine
  • And, of course, Nugget Candy!

stampin’ steps (with pictures):

  • Cut Island Indigo CS into 4×4 piece.  Score at 1″ and 3″…turn cardstock to next side and score again at 1″ and 3″.  Cut cardstock to create 1/2″ tabs on each corner.  Place sticky tape on each tab (on outside of piece) and then cut through rest of tab for folding purposes.

  • Fold piece inwards along the score lines

  • Remove sticky tape and bring sides together to form the box.

  • Cut window sheet to 3 & 15/16″ x 3 & 15/16″.  Score at 1″ on all 4 sides.  Then cut off all four corners along the score lines.

Fold window sheet along all score lines and fit over the top of the box…fill the box with candy nuggets, M&M’s, candy kisses, or Ghiardelli squares…I covered the nuggets with cardstock and stamped wrap covers (It’s a Wrap Occasions).

  • Decorate box with ribbon and tag.

  • Hope you enjoyed this little tutorial !  This box can serve so many sweet purposes!   Susan
